James Dyson lived through the frustration of premium products performing anything but. In 1979, he bought a top-of-the-line vacuum cleaner, only to find it clogged and losing suction shortly thereafter.
Frustrated, he decided to build a better vacuum cleaner - which became his flagship cyclone technology.
Then came silence.
James’ design threatened every major vacuum manufacturer’s profitable replacement bag business, so they rejected him. Every single one.
No explanation, no call backs, just radio silence. James Dyson got ghosted.
He then went on to create the fastest-selling vacuum cleaner ever made in the UK. He outsold and eventually outlasted a lot of the companies that rejected him.

James turned being ghosted into being a golden opportunity. He looked at each rejection as a signal that the incumbents didn’t see the vision he saw. Their silence gave him years of uninterrupted development time while they stood still.
James used that time to iterate, fail, and learn.
Failure is interesting - It’s part of making progress
Next time you get ghosted, choose the opportunity sitting in front of you. They’re not ignoring you: instead giving you a head start.
